About The Opportunity
Position Summary
Plans and designs manufacturing processes in industrial plant. Maximizes efficiency by analyzing layout of equipment, workflow, assembly methods, and work force utilization. Determines parts and tools needed in order to achieve manufacturing goals according to product specification.

 

Essential to this Position

Lead engineer for manufacturing and service plants’ automation initiatives.  This position provides project management and technical leadership from concepting through deployment of projects, processes, and procedures to effectively deliver automation projects in our Operations.  In addition, this position is responsible for support of Manufacturing Operations, New Product Design Engineering, Tooling Engineering, Marketing, and Sales in the development and implementation of new products.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide Leadership in the design, deployment, and maintenance of automation initiatives as ORBIS’ internal expert on automation to improve quality, reduce operating costs, increase yield, and reduce downtime
  • Confers with management, marketing, quality, and manufacturing teams to determine engineering feasibility, cost effectiveness, and prioritization of automation projects
  • Perform project management activities for significantly large projects, including new product development and major replacement/refurbishments/integration opportunities with existing equipment
  • Project management training and coaching for smaller projects.  Monitor key operational projects to ensure attainment of scope, timing, budgets, and desired outcome
  • Researching new technology to support automation strategies and monitor industry trends
  • Equipment and 3rd party integrator vendor selection and relationship management
  • Development and deployment of technical standards, training, operating procedures, and maintenance programs for automation
  • Interface with Plant Engineers and hourly technical personnel to optimize processes and improve skills

At least 4 years relevant experience required.
Knowledge, Skills, Or Abilities Desired
  • Knowledge of the existing and planned approaches and methods for manufacturing products or product components
  • Knowledge of methodologies, tools and techniques for designing, building and managing the manufacture of new products
  • Knowledge of the methodology and associated phases, activities and deliverables for the design of new products and the enhancement of existing products; ability to apply the methodology in diverse scenarios
  • Knowledge of the methodology and associated phases, activities and deliverables for manufacturing new or enhancing existing products
  • Ability to design, plan and execute testing strategies and tactics to ensure product quality at all stages of manufacturing
  • Knowledge and associated ability to apply technical, scientific and mathematical knowledge to design and implement materials, structures, machines, devices, systems and processes that safely realize a desired objective or invention
Additional Requirements
  • Ability to direct multiple operations initiatives from a project management perspective
  • Employee training, development, and coaching
  • Proven track record of project management experience with progressively increasing scale
  • Solid understanding and ability to deploy LEAN, FMEA, and DOE principles
  • Microsoft Productivity applications including Excel, Project, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Outlook
  • SAP experience
  • 3D / CAD experience – preferably SolidWorks
  • PLC Programming experience
  • Knowledge multiple axis automation in Cartesian and Articulating platforms
  • Implementation of automated work-cells into manufacturing reducing human interface in ergonomic critical areas
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written. Ability to create a business case for investments
  • Capability to train technical associates in a manufacturing environment with demonstrated effectiveness
  • Safety / Risk audit skills
