Position Summary
Supervises the activities of production personnel engaged in all facets of the manufacturing function.


Essential to this Position

The Pressroom Area Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the pressroom department, ensuring it operates in a safe, efficient and expeditious manner that satisfies the internal/external customer needs in regards to product quality, timely delivery and the most economical manufacturing methods. He/she provides directional leadership in the areas of continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Demonstrate commitment to safety and performs job duties in accordance with company safety policies and procedures.
  2. Demonstrates commitment to quality and performs job duties in adherence to GMP guidelines.
  3. Should be aware of their responsibilities and their accountability is clearly defined for key staff involved with product safety, legality, and quality systems.
  4. Recommend and implement methods to ensure constant attention to safe work procedures.
  5. Improve departmental efficiencies and professionalism through coaching and training direct reports.
  6. Manage all staffing issues within the department, interview and recommend candidates for various openings and conduct performance appraisals.
  7. Plan and direct the development of annual department operating plan with emphasis on capital expenditures, staffing, manufacturing cost expense and wage administration.
  8. Assure responsibility for raw materials, finished goods and physical assets related to the pressroom area.
  9. Advise customer service and support departments of non-compliance in meeting customer delivery dates.
  10. Partner with Human Resources in the development and execution of employee relations strategies and training programs in support of company goals.
  11. Investigate and provide detailed feedback on major production errors within the department.
  12. Facilitate, participate and act as a liaison for various meetings between customers and support departments.
  13. Investigate, recommend and purchase various pieces of equipment that reduces manufacturing costs and enhances departmental efficiencies.
  14. Protect the plant from legal and financial liabilities associated with environmental and health issues.
  15. Assist in the wage review process as it pertains to compensation adjustments. 
  16. Work with estimating to determine costs for new manufacturing processes or product development.
  17. Assure all required payroll and shop floor data collection issues are signed off daily.
  18. Stay abreast of changing technology within the pressroom area and provide insight to keep department on the cutting edge.
  19. Actively participate in Lean manufacturing initiatives.
  20. Perform special projects and other duties as assigned by management.

Skills & Experience
Work Experience Required
At least 5 years relevant experience required.
Knowledge, Skills, Or Abilities Desired
  • Knowledge of and ability to use and influence organization's policies, standards and procedures guiding manufacturing processes
  • Knowledge of methods, accepted practices, considerations and regulatory requirements associated with safety and protection of workers, environment and site
  • Knowledge of the existing and planned approaches and methods for manufacturing products or product components
  • Knowledge of day-to-day and strategic issues, operational requirements and management of a manufacturing facility
  • Knowledge of the day-to-day operations of a manufacturing plant or facility
  • Knowledge of technologies and applications used in manufacturing products and in the optimization of manufacturing processes
Additional Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in operations, business management or related degree required
  • Minimum of 2-5 years’ prior supervisory experience in manufacturing setting, preferably in printing
  • High-degree computer proficiency in MS Office, SAP and/or related ERP system required
  • Knowledge of printing process and best practices preferred
  • Must possess strong technical and analytical skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in fast-paced environment
  • Knowledge of Lean manufacturing methodologies preferred
